 Position Overview

 Accountable to the NSCRT Board of Directors (BoD), the Registrar will navigate a dynamic regulatory framework to make critical, high-profile decisions in a public accountability context.  The Registrar administers all duties ethically and in a manner that is transparent, objective, impartial and fair.

The Registrar is responsible for:

  • Providing strategic vision and regulatory expertise to the BoD.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic and operational plans.
  • Ensuring effective governance of the Respiratory Therapy profession through monitoring and implementing internal policies and standards.
  • Articulating the organization’s strategic direction to the NSCRT team and partners.
  • Overseeing the NSCRT register.
  • Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with key partners and collaborators.
  • Participating actively in health sector and regulatory networks and projects both provincially and nationally.
  • Supporting NSCRT committees through coordination, research, and guidance.
  • Upholding the NSCRT’s mandate to safeguard public interest.

 General Responsibilities

 Handles all NSCRT inquiries.

  • Manages strategic initiatives and project planning.
  • Maintains operational files and procedures, including online databases.
  • Reviews, develops, and implements policies.
  • Oversees legislated processes related to registration and management of the registrant register, including communication with registrants.
  • Supports committees through coordination, research, and participation in meetings as required.
  • Assists the Board and Executive with meeting planning, report submission, and operations.
  • Supervises the sourcing and duties of third parties and staff contracted by NSCRT.
  • Represents NSCRT on external committees and working groups, attending meetings as necessary.
  • Collaborates with the accountant/bookkeeper and Treasurer to review and recommend programs and associated budgets to achieve organizational and legislated goals.
  • Liaises with external partners such as government organizations, financial agencies, regulatory bodies, CRA, insurance agencies, accreditation services, etc., as needed.
  • Participates in provincial and national initiatives and/or committees related to regulation and respiratory therapy competencies and practice standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Board.

Ideal Candidate Profile

 The ideal candidate must be eligible for registration with the NSCRT and will demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Proven Leadership: Proven Leadership: Extensive experience in the health system, with a profound understanding of the Respiratory Therapy profession and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strategic Insight: In-depth awareness of current trends and challenges in Respiratory Therapy and public health. Familiarity with the national regulatory landscape and Atlantic regional healthcare context is an asset.
  • Collaborative Expertise: A resourceful networker and an inclusive leader who values the contributions of others in achieving NSCRT’s mission and goals.
  • Analytical Proficiency: A logical thinker with a structured approach to planning, prioritization, and problem-solving.
  • Exceptional Communication: An effective communicator adept at delivering clear, persuasive information and resolving conflicts.
  • IT/Digital Technology Knowledge: Possesses strong computer skills, an understanding of cybersecurity, data storage, and proficiency in software applications.  Familiarity with data analysis tools is considered an asset.
