Feedback Request - Draft Standards of Practice Consultation

Consulation on Draft Standards of Practice

As part of the NSCRT’s ongoing commitment to the protection of the public, in collaboration with the National Alliance of Respiratory Therapy Regulatory Bodies (NARTRB), the NSCRT have spent the last several months reviewing and revising their Standards of Practice.  These Standards were originally written by the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) and the Saskatchewan College of Respiratory Therapists (SCRT) and most recently revised in 2019.  They reflect the level of quality and safety required of professional respiratory therapy services provided to the public by members.

The Standards of Practice:

  1. Support statutory and professional self-regulation by establishing a shared set of expectations related to the many areas of respiratory therapy related activities and responsibilities regardless of role, job description and area of practice;
  2. Protect the public by establishing a set of expectations for quality respiratory therapy services;
  3. Establish a set of expectations for ethically competent professional behaviour;
  4. Serve as the foundation and reference against which to consider any complaints about the practice of NSCRT members; and
  5. Promote the continuing competence of respiratory therapists by assisting members in identifying areas for ongoing professional development.

As we enter the final stage of the revision, the NSCRT would greatly appreciate your feedback on the draft standards, in terms of their clarity and alignment with best practice.  Please take a moment  to review the Standards of Practice and complete the Feedback Survey.  The survey will close on October 4, 2024 at 5pm ADT.

Your input will help ensure that these standards are both effective and aligned with the needs of all partners. Should you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact the Registrar at registrar@nscrt.com.  Thank you in advance for your time and valuable contribution.
